In Character
Pleistocene is set in a time following a great meteor shower which caused a great deal of smoke and dust to rise up into the atmosphere -- blocking out the sun. As a result, the Earth's temperature was lowered drastically -- plunging the world into another Ice Age and almost completely eradicating the human race (thus they will play a very minor role in our roleplays, allowing for human influences in your designs). This event is scientifically known as an "impact winter".
A few years later, the earth's atmosphere is clearing -- letting the sun back in and raising the temperatures ever so slightly (melting the sheets of ice and snow that blanketed the entire surface of the world). Think of this new world as a sort of northern / "tundra" atmosphere and terrain. Some of those who lived through the harsh winter have evolved into larger species; and some species have begun to reclaim the Earth for themselves (wolves, etc...) -- stirring conflict and rivalry between families of the same and different species (wolves vs wolves, and wolves vs herds, etc...).
But not all players have to have a character who joins or makes a pack or herd; they can be rogues or prey as well. There's plenty of room for variety. So go on and enjoy your stay!

Out of Character
Long ago when feral dreams got their start, back in the day of the great "Swiftkill's Den of the Elite", a dream called "Glade of the Wolves" was born. Original and awe inspiring, it was created by Mike and Silver Softpaw; and owned by Mychelle. It was eventually retired and made available for public download. That is when an old regular aspired to restore and re-create the infamous dream by adding new patches and updating the map.Said project has been underway for almost three years now, and has gone through several changes since its initial re-creation. The version you are presently in is actually the sixth (6th) edition of the dream -- which was originally re-named "Granite Ridge" from "Glade of the Wolves" (since it is an infringement to use the "Glade" variants). It is owned and re-designed by Victoria Brown (Pleistocene).
